Even when life is difficult, complicated or painful, there’s always something to be grateful for. Being aware of special, beautiful things or moments in your life can shift your focus from all the bad stuff to a more peaceful mindset. Let me share one of my grateful moments with you today.
A heartfelt smile
Living in a big city has had many effects on my life. I’ve made new friends, met amazing people, connected with so many others, but also felt so incredibly alone at times. Anonymous in a city filled with people. And that’s why every time someone smiles at me, it makes my heart skip a beat.
Usually I don’t expect to receive such a welcome and heartfelt gift. Whilst commuting by metro, standing in line at the supermarket or taking a stroll through the streets, I look up into their face, suddenly locking eyes for just a moment. And then you smile at me, a warm and comforting smile that says: I do not know you, but everything will be okay. You will be okay. And I smile back.
That’s something to be grateful for.
Ah, this is so recognizable! Especially in a busy city like Rotterdam, where everybody is busy with their own stuff and troubles. A simple look can make you feel more aware of yourself and everybody around you! Especially when the ‘gaze’ is longer then a second, it feels like instant bonding without knowing someone! We should look each other in the eye some more.
Yes, Lies, let’s make it happen! Smiling at someone, connecting with a person, can be a beautiful thing! Thank you for reading our blog
