The last time you visited a museum, an art museum in particular, did you run straight to the ‘Mona Lisa’ of paintings, the must-see? Quickly take a picture with your phone and continue on, off to see the next painting, sculpture and the like? Snapping away, Picasso, Degas, Matisse, until by the end of the day, you have the entire museum collection neatly stored away on your phone. Sounds familiar?
Question. Did you really see the works of art? Hear their stories? Feel their colours? Smell the old (or fresh) paint, the wooden floor you walked on? And did you actually taste the coffee when you sat down at the museum café afterwards?
Were you really there?
Next time, put your phone in the locker together with your coat and bags. Or keep it in your pocket, if you must. It can do without you for an hour or two.
